Baltimore Reads Book Bank
Baltimore Reads, is a Baltimore, MD city based literacy organization whos goal is to improve the reading skills of disadvantaged children and adults while promoting reading as a family activity.
The Baltimore Reads Book Bank program is an innovative program that reinforces continuous learning by providing free books to families who are not able to afford their own books.
Book bins are placed in local Barnes and Noble Booksellers, Starbucks and other local businesses to accept donations of new childrens books. The books that are collected are available at the Department of Social Services, city shelters, schools, health care centers and community centers. Children and families are encouraged to take books off the shelves at these sites and to keep them as their own to read at home. The Book Bank program provides nearly 100,000 books to families each year. The program also promotes community involvement by encouraging families to donate books, helping those in need.
Verizon SuperPages and the Baltimore Sun Newspaper are the corporate supporters of the Baltimore Reads Book Bank program.
