Ramapo College of New Jersey is a public liberal arts college and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges located in Mahwah, New Jersey. It was established in 1969. There are about 5,500 undergraduate and 350 graduate students. Ramapo has 172 full-time faculty, of which 95% have doctorate or terminal degrees. This faculty is supplemented by adjunct specialists and other visiting scholars.
Ramapo College, designated "New Jersey's Public Liberal Arts College," was recognized by two national publications as among the best in the north. In the 2006 edition of America's Best Colleges, released by U.S. News & World Report, Ramapo College is ranked number one among regional public comprehensive colleges. In the listing, "The top public comprehensive colleges," which is subdivided into four geographical quadrants, Ramapo College is first among comprehensive colleges in the north.
