From our day-to-day office operations and the vendors we select to the type of major development projects we undertake, Scientific Properties has adopted business practices that recognize and seek to minimize or reverse negative impacts on the natural environment.Whether recycling century-old buildings from dormancy to a vibrant, living arts center or repurposing an asphalt wasteland into a new, dense, mixed-use campus, the company is focused on sustainability and green building. With several LEED acredited professionals on staff, the firm is dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of its properties through innovative design, clever resourcing, reuse of existing materials, brownfields abatement, and the installation of energy efficient systems.While sustainability is a core tenet of each Scientific Properties development project, the firm's greatest success in this arena to date has been with the transformation of the Golden Belt Hosiery Mill into a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ( LEED ) certified, mixed-use development, largely through the reuse and historic preservation of the existing buildings. Golden Belt is now the largest, all-historic, Gold-certified campus in the Southeast and one of only three LEED-certified options for large office/retail space in the Triangle.
