my mothers health has declined in my opinion due to poor nutrition. Tonights dinner (home cooking as they call it) was over fried chicken (wings) or they appeared to be wings, onion rings...also deep fried and coleslaw. Judging by the other people at her table and conversations with them this is a typical meal. Many elderly persons wear false teeth, i attempted to cut her chicken up and myself found it to be nearly impossible, dried out and hard to chew. This meal as is typical of many they can not cut, chew and has very little nutritive value. True they do have other menu staple choices such as soups, however the elderly like anyone else tire of the same old every day. My mothers weight as has her iron levels dropped drastically leaving her feeling tired and foggy and anemic. Cheap fried, overcooked, starchy meals offer very little nutrition for these people. PS. I tried the soup myself, it was so over peppered (I love pepper on everything) that i wouldn't eat it. At the insane cost of nursing home care i believe that foods should be tailored to the needs of people in that age group. I have spoken with several of the residents at this facility and not one of them had something positive to say about the meals provided. I fear for my mothers health. If you can afford to place your family member in a better facility where meals are tailored to health not convenience i would consider it.
