I would NOT RECOMMEND this vet after he had practically killed my beautiful horse of 6 years when she had colicked in the early morning hours of July 17. I called Dr. Gardner and he came. All he did is used his stethoscope on her stomach, gave her a shot, and left. Didn't give us any idea on what we should do. He said he was too afraid to do a rectal even though we had an open stall from which she wouldn't have been able to kick. He didn't try anything. Just gave her a shot to kind of sedate her and left. Hours later, her health didn't improve and we called him again. He came out, gave her another shot, a pain killer, and again, left. Leaving my gorgeous mare dying. Before he left, he said that we should take her down to OHSU, but by that time I knew that she wouldn't make the drive, we would've opened trailer doors to a dead horse. I watched, with my heart completely shattered, to see such a loving mare slowly giving up. She didn't deserve to be neglected by the vet when her life was in his hands. To this day, a month later, I am still filled with such hatred and anguish because I had relied on him to make my mare feel better when all he did was left her to die. To see such a big, beautiful mare go from perfectly healthy to dead within a matter of hours kills me inside, all because the vet was so heartless and careless to do anything. Plus, we have a little mini mare that had foaled but before she did, he absolutely refused to check her, therefore putting her, and her colt in danger! She went through foaling without us having a vet to call and I am so thankful for God watching over her as she had a beautiful blue roan tobiano colt. Since he had put 2 lives at risk and slowly let my other mare die, I will NOT call him again and will never have any nice things to say about him. I am just left with a shattered heart filled with anguish because of his stupidity. My mare probably would still be alive today if I had called a different vet or if he would've done the proper procedure. That is all.
