The heart-felt prayer of Heritage Baptist Church is for people to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and become actively involved in a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching church that cares for them. We make no apology for strong preaching, sound doctrine, and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. In June of 1981 a new church was birthed in humble rental facilities at Potomac Senior High School. Heritage was founded by Pastor Michael E. Edwards and his family. God blessed in a great way and many were led to Christ and others were brought together to help this new work of God. In 1982 the Lord provided an opportunity to purchase an older church building that had been vacated. Though it was in need of repair and not in the "greatest location," God had placed Heritage right where He wanted them. In 1984, after great growth, a developer purchased a large tract of land near the church and proceeded to build the largest outlet mall on the east coast. The sky-rocketing land values allowed Heritage to sell their old building and purchase the beautiful 18 acre campus where the ministry is now located. Since that time the church has built a multi purpose building that for many years was their church auditorium and school gymnasium, classrooms, maintenance garage, picnic pavilion, athletic fields, and most recently a beautiful 800 seat auditorium. The Heritage ministry is now worldwide supporting over 150 missions projects around the world, with nine Heritage families either on a foreign field or starting a new church here in the states. There is a wonderful Christian school, an institute of ministry and hundreds of other avenues of ministry. To all of this we gladly say, "To God be the glory for great things He hath done."
