The Crow's Nest Marina Restaurant was founded in October of 1976 by Steve Harner, Janis Payne-Harner, Harp Harner & Larry LaRocca. Larry moved on in 1986 and Harp Harner passed away in November 2005, but Steve still owns and operates the restaurant and marina. The original Crow's Nest seated 45 people on the second floor of the Tarpon Center Marina. The property immediately east of the Crow's Nest was the prior location of the Venice Yacht Club and the Happyland Seafood Restaurant. At the South Jetty, just west of us, Johnny Walkers Fish Camp operated until 1973.In early 1982, the Crow's Nest purchased Tarpon Center Marina, renamed it The Crow's Nest Marina and improved and expanded the second floor dining room to 100 seats. At that time we also opened the 50 seat Raw Bar and lounge on the ground floor. We no longer sold boats or performed service work but we still sell gas & diesel and provide dockage for the restaurant and overnighters. In 1989 we raised the roof, giving every table in our dining room a fantastic view of the marina and Intracoastal Waterway. In 1992 we renovated the ground floor, giving it a traditional tavern look with raised oak panels, marble bar top and oak back bar. We also relocated our Marina Office and Ships Store to the second floor under the "gazebo roof." In the fall of 2000 we totally renovated our kitchen. We are now 'open' to the dining room where our guests can see their food being professionally prepared. (The cooks like their new view, too!) We moved the bar and took out a wall to further enhance your view.We updated our marina restrooms & showers in 2002. And, in 2003 we built a new Ships Store & marina office dockside. The original 2nd floor store is now another wine cellar and private dining room. Our 2004 addition of an elevator pleased many of our regular guests and brought in many new ones. We replaced our marina fuel tanks & dispensers in late 2004 virtually guaranteeing we'll be here another 20 Years! . We also renovated our upstairs dining room restrooms. In 2007 we remodeled the Tavern restrooms and rebuild the seawall & docks at the west end of the marina. As you can see, we've made many physical changes over the years. However, our way of doing business and mission statement have not changed. We continue to be "Great people committed to hospitality and striving to please every guest, every day."
