This year, Mental Health Care Inc. (MHC) celebrates 60 years of service in helping individuals that have a mental illness or are emotionally distressed in Hillsborough County. During those six decades, MHC expanded its services to meet the needs of both children and adults. Today, with client visits/contacts averaging 270,000 annually, MHC offers more than 35 programs in 24 locations throughout Hillsborough County. Our employees have been at the forefront of our success. ?MHC?s ability to provide a broad continuum of mental health services to the community has been possible through the dedicated efforts of our employees over the last six decades.? stated Julian Rice, CEO. In fact, 17% of MHC?s employees have worked with the Center for five or more continuous years. Twelve employees have worked at MHC for over 25 or more years. Willie Jones has worked for seven years as a Mental Health Tech in CSU. When asked what he likes best about working at Mental Health Care, Inc, Jones stated, ?I like to help people, and I find it encouraging to watch their progress.? Ola Lawson, a 15 year Staff Aide in the Graham Home enjoys her work at MHC because, ?We are family and are here to help those that need it most.? Sometimes it is simply a life?s calling that brings us to our profession in life. Lovenia Hatten grew up in a large family of 16 siblings and often found herself cooking with ?mama?. ?Ms. Lou?, as she is often called, has been the cook in the Graham Home for 15 years. ?We hurt, celebrate and laugh and look forward to working with each other. ?noted Hatten. Twenty-one year veteran receptionist Penny Hayes says her MHC family left a significant impression on her when her father passed away. Hayes wants to share the same support she received during a difficult time with our clients, who may also be hurting. ?Even a smile can positively impact someone?s life?. Solomon Egzi, ten year employee in IT stated he enjoys meeting everyone in the agency, adding ?it?s nice to enjoy coming to work everyday.? Reginald Johnson, Social Rehab Counselor and Stephen Powers, Outcome Specialist both ten year employees said they liked the importance of MHC?s efforts to offer flexibility and the value on the opportunities for internal promotion and development. Just receiving his 25 year service award, Jim Blankenship, said he enjoys fulfilling the mission of MHC and at the end of the day ?You feel good knowing you contributed in helping others regardless of your role. We are a team.? Hiring good employees is not only important, it?s essential for MHC to continue to be at the forefront of meeting the needs of those that have a mental illness or are emotionally distressed in our community. MHC Employees are its heart and soul, each makes our operation better and more effective. They are the breath of life that enables MHC, Inc to be something more than an idea.
