Business History
In 1982, the growth of the Stuart area led the Presbytery of Tropical Florida to recommend formation of three new Presbyterian congregations: one each in Port Salerno, Palm City and Port St. Lucie. Preliminary meetings for the Port Salerno project led to the selection of the name Peace Presbyterian Church and its first pastor, Dr. Carl Polheim. On February 8, 1987 the first public worship observance, a communion service held in Cove Plaza, was attended by 101 worshipers: sixty-five signed the charter and the following week Sunday School began. Ground was broken for the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall in May 1989 and both buildings were opened in November. In 1994, Rev. Dr. James L. Bailey, II accepted the call to lead our church into the next millennium. The church responded with much growth during the next decade. Correspondingly, the staff has grown to six full-time and part-time employees. Membership is currently more than 350 individuals and growing.
