By purchasing a share you will be entitled to a weekly portion of our harvest throughout the growing season. You will receive a wide variety of delicious and nutritious, farm fresh produce! Members pay at the beginning of the growing season and share both the rewards and risks of farming, such as ?bumper? crops or ?bummer? crops (due to pests or bad weather).How much produce will I get? Each week your share will contain between 6 and 18 lbs. of produce depending on crop availability. The overall average will be approximately 15 lbs. How long is the growing season? 20 weeks, from June to October (plus an end-of-the-season surplus pick-up). Terra Firma Farm was created to operate as a working farm and educational academy for the communities of Southeast Connecticut. We provide a unique opportunity for educational, personal and physical development in order to enrich classroom curriculum, enhance awareness, foster an informed compassion, and evoke the desire to become an agent of change in our troubled and chaotic society.As a non-profit, educational organization, Terra Firma Farm promotes:Agricultural education for people of all ages, particularly local public school students, Hands-on, real life educational experiences for children of all levels of academic ability, Utilization of the farms land and animals as our teacher, A local farm that provides food, education and pride in Stonington, Connecticut, Responsible farming on the land with support from our entire community, Sustainable agricultural techniques and humane animal husbandry, Programs that reconnect children to the powerful agricultural heritage of the United States, The preservation of a distinct regional identity and local tradition that will strengthen the curriculum of public education, The essential connection between people, land and meaningful labor. Terra Firma Farm was created to establish a working farm and educational academy for the communities of Southeastern Connecticut. We hope to provide a unique opportunity for educational, personal, and physical development in order to enrich classroom curriculum, enhance awareness, foster an informed compassion, and evoke the desire to become an agent of change in our troubled and chaotic society. The farm includes cows, laying hens & their roosters, goats & their kids, sheep & their lambs, rabbits, turkeys, miniature donkeys and Tamworth pigs. Aside from the animals we have vegetable, community and childrens gardens, and exceptional year-round educational programs.
