We were longtime customers and used to be very happy, but the service has been getting bad over the past few years. They are the most expensive oil company on the South Shore and now required you buy 150 gallons before they will fill your tank. We signed up for their maintenance program and needed someone a few times - the work had to be redone on every occasion. And over the past 3 years, their cleaning of our burner also needed to be redone due to very sloppy work. I have found their office people to be mostly rude and unprofessional. Others in my neighborhood have been leaving them - we are 1 of the only ones left. As soon as our current contract is up - we will go elsewhere. Sad - they used to be good, but customer service & competitive prices are no longer anything they care about. As we have started to shop around, we are amazed at just how much more expensive they are than everyone else. There are much better companies than this. Save your $ and get better service elsewhere.

I've been with Alvin Hollis for about two years. First and foremost, I would recommend them to any novice homeowner. Their emergency service number has saved my bacon a few times, walking me through simple fixes (like resetting after a power surge) without having to send anyone out. I have a very old oil burner that they've been maintaining for years (previous homeowner used them) and it still runs like a champ. Oil is pricier but they let you break down the cost into year-round monthly payments, and I have free cleanouts and some repairs included in the cost. Would recommend.

horrible service and attitude. does not care about their customers. I had filled up a whole tank of oil and when there was a problem with the burner afterwards, they refused to come take a look unless I signed up in one of their oil subscription plans. I will NEVER ever use them again. They do not care what so ever about you and left me in the middle of a very cold winter. Horrible!

follow up of review Feb 4th, 2011. After 3 years of problems, replacement of every part and soot on the walls, Alvin Hollis replaced the furnace. We did not want to leave the house. If the heater stopped functioning (again) the pipes could freeze and burst. It shouldn't have come to this. Alvin Hollis employees are courteous. They tried to help, but you can't kick a dead horse. The furnace was a lemon and should have been replaced sooner.

I had been buying oil from another company that was giving me a deal on the price and I thought I was saving a ton of $ on oil - until my burner broke down. This other company took forever to get anyone there, and then told me I needed a bunch of parts that my "free" service plan didn't cover. I called Alvin Hollis and they came the next AM. It turns out my boiler was "plugged" w/ soot because it hadn't been cleaned properly in years. I watched thier guy pull out an unbeleviable amount of soot & grime from inside my boiler. Apparently this "free" service was worth exactly what I paid for it. From now on I'm with Alvin Hollis. They're fair, thorough, and they come when I call.

I woke up at 2 AM with no heat. I called and thier man was there in an hour. By 3:30 AM the heat was on and I was back in bed. What more could I ask for?

their fuel was on the upper end.pricewise..but I had automatic deliveries (bad gauge on my tank) But the service was always good. I got the "warranty like" service (a fee for most major work for free and a regular tune-up for an older furnace) and they came out quickly at any time of the day/night and taught me a lot about my system, which turned out helpful.

They are all very friendly and will teach you tips on self-repair, if you're interested. They fix it right away and are very knowledgeable. You don't have to wait forever to get them to fix things!
