A nationally accredited, 355-bed regional medical center, Somerset Medical Center provides a variety of comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services to Central New Jersey residents. The medical center offers a broad range of community programs, ranging from health fairs and screenings to seminars and support groups. Somerset Medical Center is a Major Clinical Affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The medical center operates residency programs in the areas of family medicine, surgery and obstetrics/gynecology. Our 604-member medical and dental staff represents all major medical and surgical specialties and has one of the highest percentages of board-certified doctors in New Jersey. In addition, many of the medical center's nurses and technical staff hold advanced degrees and are nationally certified in specialty areas such as critical care, basic and advanced cardiac life support, chemotherapy and intravenous therapy. The medical center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is a member of the American Hospital Association and the New Jersey Hospital Association. It is a clinical research affiliate of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The medical center is licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Health and Senior Services. Certified for participation in Medicare and Medicaid, the medical center is a participating hospital provider in numerous major managed care organizations. To better serve its increasing number of patients, Somerset Medical Center recently completed the largest facility expansion project in its history. The project included a new emergency department, new inpatient surgical and oncology pavilions, expanded surgical suites and a new same day center. Currently under construction is The Steeplechase Cancer Center, which will centralize cancer care services in one location. In addition, a $10 million initiative has substantially upgraded the medical center's clinical computer systems, enabling the transition from a paper to an electronic medical record, adding safety features and enhancing patient care. our mission is to serve the community by promoting wellness and improving health in an environment where all patients and all customers are valued, respected and empowered.
