      High Country Bancorp is the holding company of High Country Bank, formerly Salida Building and Loan Association. The company was organized in 1997 in order to acquire all of the common stock of Salida Building and Loan Association upon its conversion from a federally chartered mutual savings and loan association to a federally chartered stock savings and loan association. The name was changed to High Country Bank in 2000. Chartered in 1886, it is one of the oldest savings and loan institutions in Colorado, serving Chaffee, Lake, western Fremont and Saguache counties with offices in Salida, Buena Vista and Leadville, Colo. In November 1999, the company incorporated another subsidiary, High Country Title and Escrow Company, which offers title insurance and escrow closing services within High Country Bank s market area. High Country Bancorp is headquartered in Salida, Colo.
