- AIDS Clinical Trials Unit at the Washington University Medical Center conducts clinical research trials for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and its complications. Since 1987, the unit has been a participant in the AIDS Clinical Trials Group, which is funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. AIDS Clinical Trials Unit also offers community outreach, educational and consulting services for health care professionals. It has screened more than 4,000 HIV-infected individuals since its establishment. Over 1,500 volunteers have participated in its educational programs. Incorporated in 1962, the Washington University Medical Center is a medical teaching center that includes the Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children s Hospital, Barnard Hospital, Siteman Cancer Center and the Central Institute for the Deaf. It maintains a presence in St. Louis, and is a part of the Washington University in St. Louis.
