History: The Richmond Chamber of Commerce is a strong and stable association with a strong core of loyal members who care about the organization. They are involved, they work hard and the Chamber is a part of a significant number of members everyday lives. At the beginning of 1999, membership totaled under 400 members. Now, in 2006, membership totals well over 800. Recent success has not occurred without some bumps along the way. Accounting systems, computer systems, and membership investment processes had to be revamped. Some staff changes had to be made. Micro-management systems had to be reanalyzed and redeveloped. Leadership of the organization has displayed courage and open-mindedness in facilitating these changes. Most noticeably, was hiring an executive director under a management contract, rather than a traditional employment contract. This enabled the chamber to hire an established executive more likely found in the First Class Cities like Lexington and Louisville. n order for the Richmond Chamber of Commerce to exist in a global economy, it must facilitate changes to help its members deal with advances in technology and communications. Therefore the Chamber must change the way it communicates, trains, consults and develops programs for its members. Continued improvement in internet presence, e-mail, and e-commerce must become a way of life for the Chamber and its members. The implementation of broadcast fax information systems and e-mail promotion of events as well as communication and feedback/ evaluation programs is of paramount importance. The Chamber of Commerce has been fortunate to have seen steady growth in membership over the years. The people of our community realized the value of staying in touch with each other and having a forum to help in the process to facilitate growth and assist in providing a great quality of life for our area.
