Denton Township is located in central Roscommon County along the southeast coastline of Houghton Lake, Michigan's largest inland lake. Its largest community is Prudenville, where township offices are located. There are many stores, restaurants and places to stay here, most of which are situated on a heavily traveled portion of M-55 running along the lake's south side. The Houghton Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is also located here on M-55 about a mile west of Prudenville, next door to the Historical Village. This area was originally a lumber settlement. In 1876, the Denton and Rowe Sawmill began operations here, with a post office opening up under the name of Denton. Our goal is to provide you with easy, convenient access to information regarding the processes of your local government and usages of its services.
