OUR HISTORY dates back to 1958 when Squires was founded. This year Squires is celebrating 51 successful years in business. We have grown to over 20 highly trained and skilled professionals. OUR EDUCATION is a continuing evolution as we purpose our staff to stay abreast of the latest industry standards and techniques. Squires has received many State and City proclamations for our many civic and charitable contributions. We are proud to have helped launch many successful careers in the hair, fashion, modeling, theater and film industries through employment, training and scholarship. OUR INDUSTRY AWARDS have been numerous and prestigious including: First place in hair styling competitions (national) "Salon of the Year", (north east). Art & Fashion Group International's "Master of the Craft" award in 1995. Certification by the American Hair Loss Council in recognition of our expertise in men's and women's hair replacement. OUR PRESIDENT David T. Shwaery has taught advanced hair styling at the University of Rhode Island extension division. David demonstrates, lectures and judges in major cities across the country. He is one of the founders and its first elected president of the National Educators and Demonstrators Association. David sits on many industry, community and civic commissions and boards including the Providence Film Commission. He is currently President of the Pawtucket Arts Council, and a advisory board member of the Arthur Angelo School of Cosmetology, is President of the Thayer Street Business Improvement District and is also a board member of The Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame. David has been a member of the advisory board of Skin Inc. magazine. In 1976 he was the only American hairstylist featured in the program book as America hosted the World Championships of Hairdressing, in New York City, celebrating our bicentennial with over 100,000 international hair industry professionals. His hair styling work has been seen in trade magazines as well as a monthly published column. David has received the "Community Service" award, the "Longfellow Award" and the "Philanthropist of the Year" award by the American Red Cross of Rhode Island.
