After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, Joseph Capozza was employed by a local tile contractor in 1955. After nearly twenty years of installing and supervising, he founded Capozza Tile Co., Inc. in 1974. Working out of the den in his family home, the assets of the company at that time consisted of a borrowed desk, a manual typewriter, and an adding machine. The family station wagon served as the only company vehicle. In 1977, his son Joseph F. Capozza joined the company. In 1982, property on Forest Avenue was purchased and remodeled to accommodate two offices and a small showroom. As the company continued to grow, it was soon evident the company would need a larger facility. In 1986, the Capozza Tile Co., Inc. moved to its present location at 267 Warren Avenue in Portland. This move enabled the company to further expand and have both a commercial and residential division, with a large showroom and a vast line of unique and quality products.Mr. Capozza retired after working a total of forty-five years in the tile industry, leaving the company's management under the direction of his son Joseph.Capozza Tile & Floor Covering Center is a family-owned and -operated business. The company was founded, and continues to operate, with the philosophy that quality workmanship and customer satisfaction is the first priority in all commercial and residential products.
