Many people have vision problems even when they can see 20/20. Having 20/20 vision does not mean that an individual uses their eyes well. People with 20/20 vision can experience problems such as double vision, difficulty with focusing on objects (blurry vision), headaches, losing place when reading (reading difficulties), or simply not performing up to the potential that one should reach. These problems often show up in academic performance, sports performance and normal day to day activities. Pasco Vision Clinic has been alleviating these kinds of problems for several decades with their Vision Therapy Program. Who can benefit from vision therapy? We find that struggling students often have visual issues that hinder their performance in school. Athletes desiring to enhance performance on the field must have excellent visual skills to excel. Most sports require precision in body positioning and hand eye coordination. The information the eyes provide to the brain, lead nearly all of our physical postioning decisions. For example, accurately assessing the flight path of a baseball ( the eyes job is telling the brain where the hand needs to be in order to catch the ball, if the eyes are wrong (not accurate) the hand will miss the ball as a result. Traumatic brain injury sufferers often find that they become fatigued very quickly when using their eyes for even short periods of time. Vision therapy often helps them improve their efficiency with their eyes to help them endure longer and more comfortably with their day to day activities. Vision therapy may be for just about anyone who wants to bring their visual performance to a more normal level or even to an elevated level in order to reach their potential. How the Vision therapy process works at Pasco Vision Clinic: The patient is diagnosed with a visual deficiency in our clinic through a comprehensive eye exam or the patient is diagnosed and referred from another clinic. Next, we schedule visual diagnostic testing with one of our therapists in order to get additional information about how the patient is using his/her eyes. Following the vision therapy workup a meeting is scheduled with the doctor prescribing therapy, the head vision therapist and the patient or patient's parents. During the consultation the results for the testing and the recommended treatment are discussed. Once treatment has been determined the therapy begins and the patient's progress is monitored by the prescribing doctor. Once a satisfactory level has been reached the patient "graduates" from therapy.
