William Self Associates, Inc ( WSA ) was established in 1988. With Corporate registration in California, Arizona, Texas, and Utah, it is one of the most respected full-service cultural resource management firms in the U.S., covering all aspects of the discipline including historic and prehistoric archaeology, bioarchaeology, architectural history, and maritime archaeology/remote sensing and GIS services. With offices in northern California, southern Arizona, central Texas, and southern Utah, WSA conducts work throughout the Pacific, Southwest, Southern and Intermountain Regions of the U.S. William Self, with over 35 years experience in historic and prehistoric archaeological investigation and historic preservation compliance, serves as President/CEO and Principal Archaeologist. He has served as a USFS Forest Archaeologist, SHPO State Archaeologist for the State of Nevada, and corporate archaeologist with Bechtel, working worldwide. Dr. James M. Allan serves as Vice President and Principal of the Pacific Region's San Francisco Bay Area office ; Dr. Allan has more than 20 years experience in maritime, historic, and prehistoric archaeology in California and throughout the U.S., and is an adjunct professor of archaeology at St. Mary's College of California, serves as a Research Fellow at the Archaeological Research Facility at UC Berkeley, and is a member of the National Park Service's Historical Landmarks Committee. Dr. John C. Ravesloot serves as Principal and Vice President of the Southwest Regional Tucson office. Dr. Ravesloot has more than 30 years experience in archaeology and Native American relations in the Southwest, having served as Director of the Cultural Resources Management Program for the Gila River Indian Community in Sacaton, Arizona. In that capacity he managed significant contract work and a large staff conducting extensive studies on Hohokam archaeology. Dr. James Karbula serves as Regional Project Director of the Southern Region office in Austin, Texas. Dr. Karbula received his Ph.D. from UT Austin and has more than 16 years experience in the archaeology of Texas and the surrounding areas. Before joining WSA he served for more than a decade as the cultural resources program manager for an environmental services company in Austin, working statewide on CRM projects. Both Drs. Allan and Karbula and Mr. Self are Registered Professional Archaeologists, as are most senior staff. Dr. David Yoder serves as the Senior Archaeologist in our Cedar City, Utah office. Dr. Yoder is widely experienced in the prehistory of the Great Basin. He received his Ph.D. from UNLV and his M.A. from BYU. WSA has completed many hundreds of projects over 23 years in more than a dozen states, assisting our clients in meeting state and federal historic preservation laws and regulations to allow their projects to proceed on schedule. We accomplish that using a thorough knowledge of the regulations, a professional approach to archaeological assessment and mitigation, and a competent staff of very qualified individuals who strive to do quality work and meet both our client's needs and agency requirements.
