To reinforce the importance of a single standard of excellence in writing, throughout all content and curriculum areas and add rigor to the writing process in grades K12 through modeled writing, interactive writing, independent writing, the use of rubrics, and research skills. To revise and monitor the effectiveness of the integrated English/Social Studies program at the high school in grades 9, 10, and 11. To continue to monitor and evaluate the Foreign Language program grades K-12, including the impact of FLES/FLEX on the 7th and 8th grade Spanish program. To identify the number of students who will take the Spanish Regents one year earlier and whether that will have an impact on future course selections (i.e., will students who take the Regents one year earlier select additional Spanish electives and/or choose to study other languages). To familiarize all staff with the use of Essential Questions' as a means to promote critical thinking skills across all curriculum areas. To implement instructional assessments in all content areas and utilize data-driven assessment methods for student and curriculum evaluation. To develop a comprehensive plan for the administration of the state assessments that minimizes the disruption of instructional time for all students. To continue to emphasize the importance of study skills in all grade levels To monitor and evaluate the changes made in our math curriculum as a result of revised NYS Standards and to monitor the Math A program in grades 8 and 9 as most students take the Math A Regents for the first time in grade 9. To monitor our student performance in the Math B program as the State changes over to course 1, 2, and 3. To continue to provide support to students in the college application process and promote applications to highly competitive colleges. To continue to strengthen the support for student athletes and provide assistance in the NCAA process. To continue to develop students' skills in the preparation of college essays and to provide opportunities for students to practice writing personal essays within the English Language Arts program. To encourage the health and safety habits for all students using a variety of venues. These include, but are not limited to: P.E/Health classes, clubs, parent and committee meetings, school cafeteria offerings and the Healthy Schools Leadership Institute (sponsored by the American Cancer Society). To continue to model, integrate and reinforce core values for all students as the basis of good character. These include, but are not limited to: caring, honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect for self and others. To provide professional development for appropriate secondary school staff on Positive Behavioral Interventions. To implement a Teacher/Student mentor program for at risk 9th grade students. To utilize the Nassau Community College Liberty Partnership tutoring program to provide additional academic intervention for middle and high school students. To continue to utilize the Nassau BOCES system (Data Warehouse) for the analysis of student test scores as a tool to drive instruction. To continue to integrate internet safety (iSafe) into library instruction district-wide. To evaluate the effectiveness of the WinSchool Student Management System as it relates to new state reporting requirements (STEP and NYSED Repository). To continue to monitor all bond issue construction projects. To continue to provide all stakeholders with timely and appropriate information about the initiation and ongoing progress of projects related to the recently approved bond issue.
