I am a second generation of fa...

I am a second generation of family members coming to have sewing done here. Over the many years the Jacobsen's have been in Muncie, we have been having them design, sew, repair, or alter all sorts of things for our many family members and our varied activities. We have been able to recommend them to friends, co-workers, and even many church ladies and gentlemen for their personal and project needs. They have always been very fair, very professional in their dealings with all, and will only take on a project if they know they can do it well. Don't get much better then that, until you know they have the tools and equipment to do more then the average shop, and many supplies too, and they are very imaginative, inventive, and fun just to watch them work.

Need some serious heavy duty sewing work done right? Give them a try, you'll be happy and won't regret it.

Still There, and Still the Best of the Best

Randall has retired this January 2010 but is still sewing in the Green-Quonset Hut behind their home.

They have improved the circle drive around the home and shop to make more room for parking and getting in and out a bit better.

He is now on an Appointment or as Available basis instead of set hours and days. Call 760-7697 (AT&T Cell) or 765-747-1934 (Home) to check on availability or to make an appointment.

The Surplus has been sold to Pat and Teresa Romack and they moved it to the local VFW Post 651 at 1801 West Kilgore Ave. Muncie, IN. 47304 1-(866)- 454-1441

After separating the Army Navy Surplus from this shop, it changed address too. Now 1808 East Jackson St. and is located in the forest green Quonset hut, behind the remodeled and landscaped, sage green home out front that is 1806 East Jackson St.The surplus is now completely gone, but the great sewing services are still available, on a Cash & Carry basis (small bills only), No Cards/Checks of any type, still no bathroom facilities available to the public, gut they did improve the parking, and driveways before separating the shops this last year.Randall & Joyce Jacobsen, have both been going through health issues, and are strictly on an "as available basis" now that Randall is retired, and still undergoing Chemo for Stomach Cancer, and they prefer appointments by calling their home phone, listed in the area phone books. It was hard to recognize the area as I approached it. That, is one amazing transformation that has taken place in this block of Muncie. Still well worth the trip!

Struggling but stll Operating Well

This is one of those Mom and Pop shops that has been struggling along on .15 cents still existing out of every $1.00 dollar that they had earned in 2007 early 2008 before the current Recession hit and is continuing its chock hold on so many.

Their primary business number has been interrupted and they are still able to be reached by their home phone (765) 747-1934 or their Mobile AT&T Cell phone number (765) 585-0776 and of course their email ansom47305@yahoo.com or sownsews@yahoo.com so they are still there and doing exceptionally well under the circumstances.

I about had a heart attack when I called to see if they had a certain ammo box in stock and heard the recording that the 281-8804 number was disconnected. So I drove over anyway and found them indeed open and even thriving in the sense they had to choose between certain expenses and getting the landscaping, moving of their Huts and tree trimming and tear down of a house next door and enlarging the driveway, parking and pull through systems. So the phone had to give way with reduced sales in general and not all together due to the phone not on.

They told me and I bear witness to the truth of it; that those who know us well, would know we are going to be here regardless, even if we had NO phone service.

Anyway they had the right box at a great price, and are still exceptional in what they offer and have also moved to a cash and carry only basis for the time being.

The new property improvements are great, and it is all coming together, and they have greater hope for 2010. They have been going through a lot of medical problems to boot and still have a wonderful positive attitude and are committed to doing the best they can under extreme economic conditions. And they are succeeding; you and yours will do well to visit these shops and give them a try..

This place is become my default to for our household sewing need to be done on every thing from jeans hemming to bag repairs. They just did a few studded post buttons on jeans that had lost them and we had a few pockets backed to reinforce them and sewn back up too. No need to replace if we can get an acceptable job done reasonable and quickly. And they met both in about half an hour.

It really is exceptional as a Job Shop

For the record, the phone number there is 765-747-1934, (home) or, 765-760-7697 (AT&T Cell) and not the one posted above. And they are on a call to make an appointment basis these days.

At our work we had been required to use a scanner, and the company didn't or couldn't get a scanner pouch from the company they leased them from. So on one of my visits to this place I had them take the measurements and design two for me to try out at work. At the end of a week of use I had decided which design I liked the best and sold the other one to a friend who later had it modified to be more like mine.

Then I talked the company into letting our crew get them made and get reimbursed as a matter of safety and productivity improvement; and it helped to safeguard the scanner and protect their investment and reduced user liability in handling.

I have always taken my patches here to have shirts, jackets and coats done and they do a great job at a savings I can appreciate, and often done while I wait or drop them off, run some errand's and pick them up on the way home. And they have Never tried to charge me extra for same day service; good people doing good work.

I get so many things done here!

Ever sense I discovered this place a few years back I have been back time and again.

I have had jeans hemmed, coveralls zippers repaired, dog leashes made and repaired, rifle / shotgun slings made, holsters (Hip, Shoulder and in the pant) made, and boot zippers made for my duty boots.

I just had a new anti-slip pad put on a shoulder strap and some travel patches sewn on the bag I take in my travels. I like to show I have been somewhere and done something...my bag is my travel log.

I have had the hook and loop on my trouser belt replace and that saves me a bundle on a $30.00 under belt in basket-weave leather. I have had buckles replace on cargo straps and flags repaired here.

They even have some unique materials I have purchased to make some of my own special projects; I had never found stretchy Velcro before and this is a great item for many "cinch" compression straps for my fishing poles, or the many cords and webs they have in stock to do a lot of the unusual work that makes them unique.

It's easy to understand why it is so easy to see so many great reviews of this shop, and the family that operates it. It has history in the area, the Jacobsen's have been doing this for more then forty years. Amy training, well supplied and equipped, innovative thinking to be able to think outside the box, and apply word travel to most any type of sewn product and modification to existing ones; as well as great repair services.

Everything from jeans and heavy duty bibs, coveralls, hunting and contractor clothing hemming, to repairing or replacing zippers, snaps, hook & loop, buckles and straps ans so much more then can be related here.

This is one of those places you have to visit to believe what they can do. One word on that visiting; call first, Randall is actually retired as of Mar 2010, and Joyce has a fair number of medical appointments these days, so they have gone to an appointment only basis. So its best to call the AT&T cell phone 765-760-7697 to check to see if their home, or better yet make an appointment.

This isn't your normal shop, and it is worth the effort to do a bit more to help them, help us get our projects done. Good people that will give you good service and quality work, like no one else in the area can.

Custom Sewing at its best!

Over the years I have used this part of the shop to get things made or repaired. At first my day took us here to get my school backpack straps and zippers repaired and reattached. The we had our sleeping bags sewn and tube cover fixed and some straps done. Now I am taking my own coveralls in for zippers, and patches from wear and tear in the field while hunting.

We just took or son's backpack in for zipper and straps; it is as though this place is now serving a second generation. We really enjoy the customer service this place offers, and they are always friendly and prices make it worth fixing before having to replace.

We have started bringing in our jeans for hemming to them, because I have trouble find the short length I prefer and at $5.00 a pair and done on the spot it is a great deal to get them the way I like them. I have even saved some leg fabric cut off and had them put a cell phone pocket on for me.

I have been buying my outdoor Flags from the Army Navy Surplus, and because this shop in co-located with it; they even do "fly end" Re-Stitching if I catch it early enough to have it restitched; usually it has to have no more then a few inches of fraying to make it worthwhile to do.That and we have been taking our Tube Cover that we pull behind the boat to have them repaired when they bust out of their factory stitching...he actually makes them better then new by the time he is done with them. His has never re-torn.The guy has the tools, the skills, the experience and materials at hand to do the work right on the spot. Real fair too.

I have been taking things to this guy for over a dozen years and it has moved around a bit. I like that it is now located inside the Army Navy Surplus now I have the best of both. I can buy a pair of trousers in the surplus and they hem them free of charge right on the spot.Or I can get a holster (ready made type) but the sewing shop modifies for my specific carry, fit, and intended use. I even had one converted to use three different ways. Shoulder, hip, and in the pants conceal carry; and all three are the same holster with conversion rigging. Saved me a bundle for the changing seasons. What can I say? The guy replace my zippers in both legs of my work bib-overalls and that saved me at least $50.00 over the cost of the repairs. So instead of two seasons of use now I am getting at least another two or more seasons of use. I even took the wife's purse in and they redid her shoulder strap, and even had one of the kid's backpack straps and zipper in their book bag fixed.

Of all the surplus shops I have been to in this state; I never found one that had this kind of sewing shop in it...they make everything I could ever want right on the spot. It is like being back in the Army and walking into a Rigger Shack and saying Sarge can you make me a web item that will do this or that...and sure enough they can.Oh Yes you will want to check out this sewing shop inside the Army Navy Surplus.

Notably good service experience

I needed boot zippers for my EMT boots and I had been told they had them. What they should have told me is they make them in their shop to fit whatever boots you have. It took them just 1 hours and I had a custom fit pair made for my boots. Hole for hole and just the right length and features I would not have thought to ask for. And yes i did have to wait for an hour but where can you get this kind of service that competes with ready made pricing.

Notably good service experience, the best I ever had

I needed hemming to five pair of trousers done and patches sewn on correctly to five duty shirts by 5 PM. the same day, so I could get my new job started in the morning. They did and at no additional charge above the regular charge of $5.00 per pair for hemming and 2 patches sewn on for $5.00. I save an average of $5.00 per set

A local favorite of mine, I use them for most of my sewing and repair needs

I needed a custom bag for my Call Out supplies and I stood in wonder as they designed, cut and sewed it while I watched. It still cost me less then if I had ordered from a catalog or Mart type store. Another time he repaired my zipper in my coveralls with out having to replace the zipper or pull and even taught me how to do it. Very inexpensive and very helpful. He does it my way right away, the first time out and stands behind his work.
