First, & only time I will ever use this practice. During first appointment with my giant breed pup, one of his testicles had not descended. The ONLY recommendation from the vet were scare tactics about the awful risk of cancer to the dog [3.5 months old at the time of the visit]. She recommended he be neutered immediately! This is a very RARE breed of dog & very costly due to his pedigree. The vet did not listen to a word about what the breeder [of 40+ years] recommended about the breed. Is there some harm in taking a wait & see approach? Somehow common sense says that a puppy not even a year old will not develop cancer IMMEDIATELY. While I am not allowed to breed our dog, had considered showing him at some point. He would need to be an intact male to show. AND, a month later, guess what, both testicles showing... what is the matter with some of these vets? Is it all about ego? Drumming up business? What?
