History of Middletown Free Library: Middletown Free Library is located in Middletown Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The library was founded by volunteers in 1956. A school bus was purchased from Elwyn Institute for $400.00, it was converted into a bookmobile where 1700 books were housed and cataloged. Volunteers drove the bus to various locations throughout the township. In 1959 the library board bought the present day property from the Weather's Brothers and the library was established at 21 North Pennell Road, Lima, PA 19037. Two more additions were built to this 200 year-old building, in 1963 and 1973. Today the library houses a collection of over 45,000 items, 4 internet computers for public use and many other services for the public.
