El Rinconcito Del Mar was opened in 1968. It was only the 2nd restaurant in Boyle Heights. It was opened by former owner Juan Diaz and was later purchased and renovated by the current owner, Juan Ramirez.
Juan Ramirez began his career as a chef in a restaurant called The Hungry Tiger. He started off as a dishwasher there and later branched off after working his way up to chef. He has now been a chef for over 37 years and his restaurant has been featured in the L.A. Times, La Opinion, and Los Angeles Magazine to name a few.
