Meaning rock in Greek, Petra was the capital city of the Nabataeans in the 6th century BC and is now a World Heritage Site in Ma'an, Jordan. Its famous stone cut architecture is enclosed by towering rocks on the slope of Mount Hor. The location served as a fortress to ward off attackers and control important trading routes between Damascus, Gaza, and the Red Sea. A perennial stream and superb water conduit system made Petra an oasis in the desert. The entrance to our restaurant shows the face of Petra's most elaborate ruin, The Treasury. The site appeared in the 1989 film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when Indy took the Orient Express to Istanbul before continuing to Petra, where he met Sallah and reunited with his father. The BBC called Petra one of the 40 places you have to see before you die. We hope to share with you some of our namesake's grandeur while you dine with us. Enjoy!
