The Lehigh Acres Christian Church came into being in August 1981. A small group of believers who were members of the First Christian Church of Fort Myers were commissioned by that Church to begin the work in Lehigh Acres. That group came out under the leadership of Mel Meyer, one of the elders of the First Christian Church. The congregation remained under the leadership of the elders of First Christian Church until elders could be put in place at Lehigh Acres Christian Church. The Lehigh Acres Christian Church is a part of a nationwide brotherhood known as Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. These congregations are a part of what is known as the Restoration Movement. There are over 5400 similar congregations in the United States. The collective membership of these congregations is in excess of 1,200000. The congregation met for several years in rented facilities. During that time their first minister Larry Gutridge was called. In 1983 3.77 acres of property was purchased at 50 Bell Boulevard N. The first phase of the building was completed in May of 1987. That building would seat 250. Then in 1994 the second phase was completed. That phase will seat 450. On March 19, 2006 the mortgage for the entire indebtedness was burned. The congregation has grown from 17 to over 200. There are three people on staff. There are currently 10 elders and 8 ministry leaders. The congregation gave over $45,000 to various mission efforts during the year of 2005.
