Urology/Urologic Oncology: Our urologic cancer team is devoted to the effective treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancers, as well as incontinence and kidney stones. We also have one of the few urologic oncology surgeons adept at cryosurgery, a promising alternative for those who may not be candidates for traditional surgery. Mark Bandyk, M.D.: Dr. Bandyk came to LRCC from Danville Urologic Clinic in Danville, Virginia, where he was on staff at Danville Regional Medical Center and Halifax Regional Hospital. He was also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina. Dr. Bandyk has received numerous honors and awards in his career and is a member of professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, Society of Urologic Oncology, American Urological Association, and the American Foundation for Urologic Disease. He has been an investigator in a multitude of clinical research trials and published a number of professional articles. Graham Greene, M.D.: Dr. Greene’s specialties are Robotic Assisted Prostatectomies, Continent Urinary Diversions for both men and women, Cystectomies, Cryotherapy, brachytherapy, and advanced urologic renal and adrenal cancers. He has published numerous works, and has participated in several clinical trials during his career. Dr. Greene is certified by the American Urologic Association, and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. G. Byron Hodge, Jr., M.D.: Dr. Hodge specializes in cancers of the prostate and bladder and brings to LRCC several important clinical trials. He also specializes in bladder replacement surgery. Dr. Hodge’s most recent appointment was Director of Urologic Oncology at the Cancer Institute at Florida Hospital. Dr. Hodge is a well-known and respected speaker, writer, consultant and physician throughout Central Florida. Dr. Hodge has certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Urology and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review physicians. He is an active member in numerous professional organizations, including the American Cancer Society, and has served on a variety of hospital and association committees. Frances Martin, M.D.: Dr. Martin has experience in surgical procedures for the prostate, kidney and bladder. Additionally, she specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery, particularly for renal tumors and bladder cancer. Dr. Martin was named the Bobby C. Powell Intern of the Year during her General Surgery internship at the University of Kentucky. She also received the Medical Student Enrichment Program Travel Award for training in Russia while at UAB. In addition, Dr. Martin has completed multiple research projects in areas of urologic stone disease, urologic oncology, and gynecology, among others. She is a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Medical Association, and the Society for Urologic Oncology. Dr. Martin has written numerous publications and is involved with many civic organizations. Matthew S. Smith, M.D.: Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Urologist. Dr. Smith is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the American Medical Association, the American Urological Association, the Florida Urological Society, the International Society of Urologic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, and the American Fertility Society. Dr. Smith has published several scientific papers and has contributed to chapters in several books.
