Iaria's History: - 1911, Pete (Pietro) Iaria & his wife Antonia Sgro came to Ellis Island from Roccoforte, Italy (located in the Region of Calabria, Southern Italy) - Pete & Antonia started out in West Virginia in the coal mining industry - They migrated with their 8 children to Indianapolis in 1913, where they purchased a home at 317 S. Noble Street (College Av. Today) - Their original home is where the dining room sits today - Pete & Antonia took in borders and fed workers from G & J Rubber Plant located across the street, this is how the tradition began - In 1916, they opened Pete Iaria's Italian Grocery Store, which is on the site where the bar is today - Iaria's spaghetti sauce was sold in the restaurant from day one and is Antonia's original recipe, it is still what a tops our pasta today - In 1933, Pete & Antonia, sons Matthew & Rocky, and daughter Pasqualina Iaria Piccione gave birth to Pete Iaria's Restaurant - In 1940, Noble Street became College Avenue - In 1949, Pete turned over the restaurant to son Matthew (Mate) and his wife Santina Bondi Iaria, they vowed to continue the tradition of fine Italian food, good service, & immaculate surroundings - In 1992, the third generation of restaurant owners was born when Mate decided it was time to pass it on to his son Nick - Nick, his wife Kathleen and his daughters Santina & Gina ran the restaurant and continued service to customers until the summer of 2003 - In September of 2003, Nick sold the restaurant to his brother Matthew's children and nephew, the fourth generation - The fourth generation family members are keeping the tradition alive todayLess
