Terrible food and even worse service. I paid $30 for a 12 oz prime rib that was so tuff that it hurt my jaw to chew it. By the time we got our sour cream our baked potatoes were cold. Waitress asked if we would like soup or salad. We both got the crapiest side salads in the world. All spinach, 3 cherry tomatoes, 3 slices of cucumbers and a couple shreds of carrots. No lettuce, no cheese, no curtons. After spending $30 & $35 for steaks and not saying they were extra, just asking if we wanted soup or salad we were charged another $6.50 for each salad. Then we had asked for refills and had to wait 10 minutes to get those. This place isn't worth the 1 star I gave them. $89.00 for the worst meal I have ever had. Literally I have gotten better service at Golden Corral. And their steaks weren't nearly as tuff. Prime rib is supposed to melt in your mouth, not hurt your jaw trying to chew it. Alpenrose thank you for wreaking my 24th anniversary dinner!

My daughter has been at college for four years in Holland and this is the restaurant we most consistently have enjoyed. The food is excellent, with a lovely Austrian style ambiance, and good service. there is also a small cafe case and tables at the north entrance, the formal dining areas and banquet rooms are toward the back. This will be my choice for graduation dinner in May.

DETAILS
General Info
The Alpenrose Restaurant and Cafe is not just a restaurant--it's an idea. The idea was to bring an authentic taste of the Alps to downtown Holland, Mich. The Alps is not lederhosen and oompah bands, but the famed European mountain range carves through countries as diverse as Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland--a variety of cultures and cuisines that can all claim the title 'Alpen.' The restaurant opened in 1991 in a building that once housed a run-of-the-mill discount store. It has been redesigned to fit the cuisine, with wall-to-wall wood, support columns and ceiling rafters display exquisite wooden carvings of the Alpenrose and a rhododendron type flower found throughout the Alps. The full menu restaurant brings Alpen charm to West Michigan with its multiple dining rooms, family-oriented Kitzbuhel ski lodge; and the classical, fine-dining elegance of its Salzburg room. Alpenrose is a magnificent microcosm of the many dining experiences available in the Alpen region.
