In 1965, Robert Bath, Founder of Advance Disposal Company left his successful swimming pool business in the San Fernando Valley of California, packed up his family and purchased a small disposal company in Hesperia. He only had two trucks at the time to service his customers, but with his wife Donna there to support his new endeavor, they would now call Hesperia home. In the late 1970's, the company began a small recycling operation of aluminum cans, glass and cardboard. In December 1992, city-wide mandatory trash pickup became effective. This was brought about by State recycling laws which required cities to reduce their total waste stream by 25% by January 1, 1992 and 50% by the year 2000. With these laws in mind as well as being environmentally conscious, Advance Disposal Company constructed the first Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in San Bernardino County. Today, Advance Disposal continues to meet or exceed the 50% landfill diversion rate implemented by the State in 2000. Advance is also seeking opportunities to create school and community programs to meet a 75% diversion rate that may be implemented sometime in 2015. The simple two trucks that started this family-owned and operated business has now grown to a fleet and the little girl that moved with her family to Hesperia as a child, is now the President of Advance Disposal Company & Recycling Center. The company continues to support the community they joined 45 years ago and looks forward to future opportunities to grow in the High Desert.
