The Mission of Roper Mountain Science Center: Our Mission is to educate and inspire learners of all ages to explore and investigate the world of science and technology. Roper Mountain Science Center Philosophy Statements We Believe Everyone can learn. Learning can be enjoyable as well as challenging. Learning experiences at Roper Mountain Science Center should be interdisciplinaryincorporating, science, technology, mathematics, social studies, and language arts. Science is for everyone, not just career scientists (for pre-school, elementary, secondary, college, and adult). Science can be fun and can stimulate natural curiosity toward learning. Children learn best by doing, and they learn science best through active participation in science inquiry All students should have equal opportunity to participate in the Centers programs. A blend of formal and informal education enhances classroom and family learning, and is directly linked with South Carolina curriculum standards. Roper Mountain Science Center lessons reflect the use of current practices and innovative methods of instruction including basic scientific investigation. It is the Centers responsibility to promote stewardship and wise use of natural and historical resources in an increasingly urbanized society. Life-long learning develops an informed, scientifically and technologically literate citizenry. Active involvement of adult and youth volunteer services enhances learning for both the volunteer and the students served by the Center The exploration of our cultural heritage enhances insight and provides new perspectives. Roper Mountain Science Center staff should collaborate with one another to support the production of the best services possible. Roper Mountain staff should strive to continually improve the quality of lessons and services offered by the Center. Roper Mountain Science Center should seek partnerships and collaborations with other organizations and individuals and thus add their resources to the Centers mission.
