The Galion City School Districts utilizes a web-based grading system entitled Progress Book. One of the major goals in utilizing Progress Book is to increase communication between parents and teachers. Through the Parent Access Feature of Progress Book, parents have easy access to their students progress, homework assignments, and attendance records. Parent Access can be easily accessed by using the link called Parent Access which can be found on the Galion City Schools homepage www.galion-city.k12.oh.us. If you have any questions about using Parent Access or need account information, please contact the school building your child attends Galion City Schools Striving for Academic Excellence Galion Elementary Schools All of our Galion Elementary Schools have enjoyed involvement from a variety of community activities. These groups have provided educational programs and volunteer support. The groups include: Junior Achievement - community members bring Social Studies to life through lessons such as communities, economics, and government. Galion Fire Department - sponsored the Firefighter Phil Program which used magic tricks to educate students about fire safety. Mobile Dentist Program -our school nurse, Mrs. Flannigan, obtained grant monies for the Mobile Dentist Program which brought dental professionals to our school to provide dental care for any students who needed or requested it. Ohio Reads - Volunteers throughout the city have made the commitment to give of their time on a weekly basis to help children in school become better readers. Recycle for Recess - The district PTO sponsors a great program entitled Recycling for Recess. All proceeds earned through the recycling program will be used for playground equipment at the new schools. Containers are located adjacent to the back parking lot at Renschville. You are encouraged to bring your recyclable items and place them in the appropriate container. You may also drop off items at: the Middle School from 4:00-7:00 p.m. every 2nd Thursday and at North E.S. every 4th Thursday of the month. Dawsett Elementary School Dawsett E. S. students are looking forward to the Safety Belt Promise Campaign sponsored by Pizza Hut and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Later this spring, troopers will visit our school to promote proper safety belt use. After the presentation, students will receive certificates and a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Pioneer students will also be visiting to give Table Top Demonstrations for the third grade classes. The purpose is to introduce students to the World of Work and show students how important school subjects will be later in life. Three students from different technical programs will set up stations and demonstrate job-related skills such as using tools, arranging flowers, laying bricks, and using presentation software on a computer. North School Shines in Reading Counts! North E.S. students are excited about the Reading Counts Program. This program is implemented in grades 1-3. Reading Counts (RC) is a computer program that manages and motivates independent reading in our building. Students are motivated to read by being positively rewarded for their individual accomplishments! Our results are amazing! The students have read and passed 9,714 books this school year. Four students have reached the Silver level of 250 points, and 47 have the Bronze level of 100 points. 61 students have the Red level of 50 points, and 54 children have the Blue level of 25 points. That makes a total of 166 students out of 225 participating, which have 25 points or more. North E.S. also had an Adopt a Quiz fundraiser in which the students and their parents were able to purchase quizzes for the program. The parents donated a total of $400 to purchase 135 quizzes! Renschville Elementary School Students will have an opportunity to participate in the Talent Show on April 21. The community is invited to attend.
