Mission Statement We have a clear mission that comes from the Great Commission of Jesus (Co-Mission: Christ's mission that we accomplish together) in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples...." A disciple is one who is learning to become like their master. Our Master is Jesus Christ. Therefore, our mission is to produce spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ. At COD we put it like this: Leading People in the Adventure of Becoming Like Christ. Because our mission is to Lead People in the Adventure of Becoming Like Christ, the next question we want to ask is "what specifically does being 'like Christ' look like?" We have studied the Scriptures for the core characteristics of Christ's earthly life and we have summarized these core characteristics under six distinctive. Together, they form the acronym C.H.R.I.S.T. and help us clarify what it means to live "like Christ." Our goal is nothing less than a community of fully devoted and fully developed Christ-followers, people whose lives reflect accurately the life of Jesus Christ while he was on earth. This is what it means to be the church: the body of Christ here and now. These are what we call our Core Christlike Characteristics: C Connected to God through the Word and prayer H Heart of Worship R Relates with forgiving, other-centered love I Intentional Evangelism, reaching out to others as a lifestyle S Spirit-empowered Servant T Trustworthy Steward of all of God's Resources You could think of the process this way: Helping people develop a life of staying: Connected to God will form within them a heart of worship as well as a love for others that causes them to relate with other-centered love and intentionally look for ways to share the gospel with those who don't know God's love. How do we love and live like this? As spirit-empowered servants who are trustworthy stewards of God's resources, cooperating with his purpose and mission in our world.
