Barbara Joiner has been a lifelong resident of Madison County Illinois. She graduated from Roxana High School and then attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Law Enforcement Administration. She graduated from Washington University Law School in St. Louis in December 1978. While in her second and third years of law school, Barbara interned for Joseph Davidson at the Bernard and Davidson Law Firm in Granite City, Illinois, which was a civil defense firm. After passing the Illinois Bar Exam in April 1979, she became an assistant state's attorney in Madison County. Barbara prosecuted criminal misdemeanors, traffic, and juvenile cases while at the state's attorney's office. A few years later she accepted the position of the first attorney at the Student Legal Services office on the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville campus. Barbara opened her own general law practice in 1983, during the next twenty years, she handled a wide variety of legal matters, such as family law, divorce, adoption, civil, personal injury, probate, SOS matters and criminal defense. In 2004 Barbara decided to handle only criminal cases and SOS driving relief cases.
