About Us:For more than forty years, the Missouri Symphony Society has dedicated itself to providing musical performances of the highest caliber and to educating central Missouri youth in the area of music.Since its founding, the not-for-profit Society has evolved from its sponsorship of such ensembles as the Missouri Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Missouri Youth Band and the Missouri Youth Chorus to sponsorship of mid-Missouris only professional resident symphony orchestra the Missouri Symphony Orchestra. This ensemble is comprised of professional musicians from throughout the United States and around the world and performs an annual festival Hot Summer Nights.The Society purchased the Missouri Theatre in 1987 to serve as the home venue for the orchestra. Built in 1928, the theatre is central Missouris only pre-Depression era movie palace/vaudeville stage and is on the National Register of Historic Places. As steward of this historic landmark, the Missouri Symphony Society made the preservation and restoration of this magnificent building part of its mission. In 2007-08 the Theatre was beautifully restored. Currently, the University of Missouri is leasing and running the Theatre operations.Currently under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Kirk Trevor, the Missouri Symphony Orchestra has a reputation for musical excellence and has continued to expand its audience through chamber music outreach programs, youth programs and tours around the state and beyond. Many distinguished artists have performed with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra including Andre Watts, Andreas Klein, Nelson Padgett, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Art Garfunkle and Leonyne Price.Missouri Symphony Society also runs and supports the Missouri Symphony Conservatory music education program, Plowman competition, Piano Showcase and several camps for young instrumentalists and singers.The Womens Symphony League, an auxiliary to the Society, fosters, promotes and increases the publics knowledge and appreciation of classical music through educational activities. Members also host a popular Holiday Home Tour as a fundraiser for Missouri Symphony Society since 1984. Womens Symphony League members also serve on a variety of Missouri Symphony Society committees such as marketing, special events. Membership in the Missouri Symphony Society is a requirement of the Womens Symphony League.
