South Chicago Community School (SCCS) located at 8255 South Houston Avenue is a new community school that has been in existence since August 2002. Our enrollment is approximately 235 students in grades kindergarten to eighth. The school was created to relieve over crowded schools in the area, with Powell Elementary school being the first to be relieved. Students from other schools can attend if space is available. Ninos Hero's Elementary School, located at 8344 South Commercial, also has a branch that is housed inside the school. To assure that no child is left behind, South Chicago Community School offers a curriculum that is aligned with both Chicago and Illinois curriculum standards. South Chicago Community School has adopted the "connectors" curriculum program from DePaul University and has established a partnership with them.
