When our family was evicted, they gave us three "food grants" (essentially enough food for one meal daily for three days) and told us we couldn't use the shelter because we had a dog. The dog was a 10 year old lifelong pet that was well behaved and weighs 18 pounds. We ended up in the living room at a single friends apartment until we took the bus to Reno where a "real" shelter allowed us to stay. As a past Carson City resident, we were very disappointed that our local social service agency treated us so poorly.
