Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is a North Carolina 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the lives of companion animals and the people who love them. Formed in the fall of 2006 by a small group of volunteers and later incorporated in the spring of 2007, Brother Wolf rescued and rehomed primarily dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters. In early 2009, our cat team joined us, and in June of 2009, we became a licensed shelter. Over just the next year, we found homes for 1,300 cat and dogs, and in 2011 over 2,600 pets went to loving new families through BWAR's adoption program. Brother Wolf works closely with Buncombe County Animal Services and other animal rescue groups in Asheville and surrounding communities. Many of the animals in our care are older, have special needs, or require extensive medical care. As a private rescue we receive no government funding and rely on fundraising and the generosity of our animal loving community to help these precious dogs and cats heal, emotionally and physically, until they find their forever homes. We know that by partnering with the community to improve the lives of dogs and cats, we will end the practice of euthanasia as a means of population control. To make this possible, our spay/neuter and free pet food assistance programs allow loving families in our community to keep their pets during tough times. In addition, our innovative transport program brings dogs and puppies to Northern States where homes are easier to find, lightening the burden on our crowded southern shelters.
