- Medical Weight LossDoc·Side Veterinary Medical Center knows that pet nutrition plays a critical role in your pet’s overall health and well-being. Different pets require different foods, and the vast amount of choices available today can make it difficult to know what is the right choice, as well as the right amount.
- Nutritional CounselingOwning an exotic pet is no small responsibility. They also need comprehensive care from a qualified veterinarian as their diet and nutrition, housing and care, as well as medical problems are all special and unique. We are proud to offer client education and exotic pet care services to ensure that they enjoy happy, healthy lives.
- Emergency CareDoc·Side Veterinary Medical Center knows how scary pet emergencies can be, and we aim to educate on what situation warrants a visit for emergency pet care.
- ImmunizationsAs with your own health, the key to maintaining your pets’ health is in preventative medicine. The gradual onset of health problems in an animal that seems healthy often goes unnoticed. Once symptoms appear, the condition may be more difficult or costly to diagnose. At least once and perhaps twice a year, your pet needs a complete physical examination. Remember, your pets’ life span is shorter than a person's and a lot can happen in 12 months. Today, many immunizations and preventive treatments are available for your pet.
- GlaucomaBring your pet to us for additional eye screening if you notice red, irritated eyes, if your pet has suffered head/eye trauma, or if your pet is being monitored for glaucoma/cataracts.

- Internal MedicineInternal medicine refers to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of your pet's internal organs. This can include the heart, lungs, nervous system, intestinal tract, liver and pancreas, kidney and urinary tract diseases, and blood abnormalities.
- EndoscopyThrough the use of specialized fiber optic cameras, endoscopy allows direct visualization of an animals various body cavities. This is especially useful in diagnosing many gastrointestinal problems. Endoscopy permits biopsy or removal of suspected tumors or ingested foreign bodies, often times avoiding more painful and costly open surgery.
- UltrasoundUltrasound imaging, referred to as ultrasonography, allows us to get an inside view of soft tissues and body cavities, without using invasive techniques. Doc·Side is equipped with the most modern ultrasound equipment in the industry, which uses sound waves to visualize organs in the chest and abdomen. This is extremely useful in diagnosing pregnancy and evaluating the heart, liver, kidneys, bladder, intestines, adrenal glands and pancreas. Biopsies may be performed using ultrasound, avoiding traditional surgery and anesthesia.

- Minimally Invasive SurgeryDr. Herling, a Baltimore native, has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1972. During his 50 year career he has, not only practiced companion animal medicine, but contributed to his profession by serving on the Board of Animal Control, Directing the Veterinary Technician program for the State of Maryland and being a member of the Department of Surgery at Sinai Hospital. Although he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, his specialty interest include minimally invasive surgery, imaging, and oral surgery.
- LaparoscopyLaparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique for viewing the internal structures of the abdominal cavity. It involves the use of a laparoscope (camera) inserted into the abdomen. This allows our veterinarians to view abdominal organs magnified on a monitor. Applications are as numerous in veterinary medicine as in human medicine, the most recent being the use of laparoscopy for performing an ovarectomy / ovariohysterectomy (spay) or retained testicle neuter. Veterinary laparoscopy is relatively new requiring special training and surgical expertise.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryThe doctors at Doc·Side Veterinary Medical Center are experienced in a wide range of surgical procedures. These include soft-tissue, orthopedic, and minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgery. Our surgical facilities are completely sterile and equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and modern anesthesia and patient monitoring systems. In addition, we provide advance pain management post-op so that your pet can feel better and recover comfortably.
