There are good things about th...

Less than thrilled about this daycare. They do provide all meals and snacks; upscale location, tenured staff, interesting creative activities like art, etc., however, I did witness one of their teachers snap at one of the toddlers who was playing with an area rug when she wasn't supposed to. This teacher snapped at the toddler by saying "Toddler's Name, get up! Come on! Let's go! Get up!" and angrily pulled her arm up while the child was red-faced and crying. It really pissed me off to see that. What nerve this teacher had. There was another child in my kids class who was aggressive (biting, pinching, scratching) and they didn't do much about it, gave me the run-around, and eventually moved the problem-child to another classroom where the child continued to be aggressive with other kids. They simply shifted the problem to another classroom. When I asked what their policy was for aggressive children and where they draw the line for number of violations before they remove the child from the program and ask the parents to find care elsewhere, they gave me the run-around which means: keeping this child enrolled so they can make money is more important.

We also had some 95 degree, humid days where they had the two year olds outside for 35 minutes!!! When I was picking up my kids, they were quickly spraying them down with water to cool them off. My kids faces were completely red and flushed and they were actually sweaty. My kids rarely sweat at 2 yrs old. NEWSFLASH to Educational Playcare: if a child needs to be sprayed down to cool them off, IT'S TOO HOT TO BRING THE KIDS OUTSIDE!!! They're too little for that! I was so damned mad and questioned the teachers and director and got the excuse that "we checked the website and it was deemed safe." USE COMMON SENSE MORONS! The teachers use outdoor play as a way to take breaks and do nothing with the kids. So they make damn sure they get the kids outdoors every chance they get...regardless of whether a parent requests they keep their child inside due to excessive heat.

Some other special things they did were move our child to a different classroom with different kids and teachers without communicating this to us. That's extra special when you find out by casually talking to a teacher. They also filled out our daily sheet and list all the things our children ate that day. I knew a lot of it was total BS. I KNOW my children, what they eat, and how much. Also, a big tip off was when my kid came home ravenous, I know he didn't eat much that day.

My children were in this daycare for about 6 months before we realized Educational Playcare just wasn't worth the money they charge. They charge about $1250/month per child. With two kids enrolled, it was very expensive. Your money is better spent elsewhere where your kids are valued rather than the money their enrollment brings in.

We know this family. This is the first we've heard of her accusation that one of our staff verbally and physically abused a child. I would hope that had it really occurred that we would have been told. We have a zero tolerance abuse policy at Educational Playcare and had we confirmed an incident like this, we would have dismissed the employee immediately. In all of our locations, except this building at our Avon location, we have recording surveillance cameras which would be available to confirm or deny a situation like this. Cameras are scheduled to be installed in our toddler building in Avon this month. Regarding her claim that we mishandled a situation with an aggressive child, this is not true. Biting and sometimes aggressive behavior is not unusual in a childcare setting, particularly at a time before children's language skills have emerged to allow them to express themselves verbally. There are countless articles addressing this available to read (just google it). We handled the situation properly and the child has not had another incident of aggression or biting since. The comments about our going outside in hot weather just so that our teachers can have a break is almost too ridiculous to comment on. The incident that is referred to was on one of our hotter days, but occurred at the end of the day when it had cooled down significantly. The children WERE engaged in water play. Conditions were not unsafe and the children were not in any danger and had a great time. Regarding the communications comment, we pride ourselves on our communications. In fact, in a couple of weeks we're launching a revolutionary new form of communication wherein our staff will all have tablet devices and daily reports, pictures and other communications will be as easy as a click and parents will receive regular emails, pictures and other communications about their children and their day. Finally, it is very sad that this parent is claiming that a teacher would lie or misrepresent the amount a child ate on a daily. Instead we wish the parent had commented on the extraordinary care we have provided and continue to provide. The child in question actually has a sensory problem in their mouth, and at the suggestion of birth to 3, our teachers actually massage the child's mouth for as much as a half hour before eating. It has proved successful in increasing the amount of food that the child eats. In no way have we ever misrepresented the quantity of food a child might eat.

I am so disappointed with this place. My daughter attended for less than a month and the experience was not a good one for us, but the part that upsets me is that they promise a refund if you are not happy within a month of joining and pull out (which I did) and they are now giving me the run around. I was told the check went out to me 2ce and have not received anything. Very unhappy. Will not consider this place in the future.

We just saw this comment. I don't actually know who this is. All I can say is that the two years since we began providing a 30 day money back guarantee, we have enrolled over 500 children at our 4 locations and have only had 2 families ask for a refund. In one of these cases the family definitely abused the spirit of our offer as they knew in advance they'd be withdrawing. Nevertheless, in this case and the other one, we refunded the money.
