DETAILS

Austin Fine Art Classes offers a clear concise step-by-step approach to learning the basics of drawing and painting. New "right-brain" techniques reveal the secrets of the old masters. Learn to see and appreciate the world in a "whole" new way. From this solid foundation you can go in any direction with confidence and certainty, from classical realism to loss free style of the impressionists or anywhere in between. Start any time, go at your own pace, superb one-on-one instruction, create your own schedule, progress in every class, weekly and weekend classes. Established in 1986 Elizabeth Locke has been teaching people to draw and paint beautifully in Austin for over 24 years in Austin Texas. In 2001 after taking a group of her students to France for a summer of painting the french countryside and the gardens of Monet's in Giverny, she started showing her work and gaining national recognition from collectors, was featured in SouthWestArt Magazine and interviewed for a spot on LifeTime TV. She was one of the "in house artists" at Greenhouse Gallery for the past six years.

General Info
This is an invitation to try out this unique approach to making art, the way art used to be taught for centuries but just hasn't been taught in over 80 to 100 years. This is not something I dreamed up in other words. Learning the technical skills for visual communication is a lot like learning a language or learning to play an instrument. There is a technical side to it. The creative side is already inside you. Once you understand and can apply the technical skills of line, tone, texture and color, you will be able to express yourself the way you always dreamed you could. Yes it takes practice to acquire the skill of drawing and painting beautifully but there are different kinds of practice, some more effective than others. I was in reading "The Talent Code" the other day about different ways of practicing to learn a skill and when they described "deep practice" I was thrilled because it is what I am showing students how to do. Deep practice is what creates the fluency and certainty that you want, and is what we are doing here at Austin Fine Art Classes.
