The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is a full-service public safety agency that is responsible for fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical service, building inspections, hazardous material spills and fire apparatus maintenance. It maintains a technical services division that monitors fire code enforcement, safety education and investigations. With a fire station in Atlanta, the fire department also has an operations division that is responsible for responding to and mitigating disastrous incidents within the city. The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department operates an emergency communication center that handles an average of 125 incidents per day, including fires, hazardous materials, rescue, emergency medical services alarms and homeland security response.
