NEVER trust your well-being to Providence Urgent Care

This place is absolutely terrible. I walked in and the receptionist looked at me as if I didn't belong but told her I was hoping to see a doctor for some flu-like symptoms. I was quickly called back to the exam room where the RN (whose name was Alan, for the record) was more interested in his tablet computer medical records than my symptoms. He did not ask crucial questions about my medical history and was all-around unkind. He also left the door open to my exam room as he was assessing me (a HIPAA violation). He walked out and said the doc would be in shortly. My fiancé and I waited approximately 10mins (not a problem at all) and the doctor came in--Dr. Like Stephens. He was not personable and continuously cut me off with various affirmatives (yes, mhmm, etc) as I tried to describe my symptoms. He quickly assessed me physically with little feedback. He told me he wanted to swab my throat for strep and treat me for that if I tested positive and if I tested negative, he would treat me for influenza. He said he would send a nurse in to swab me. He did not describe the procedure or what would happen and did not ask me if I had any questions or concerns. The RN (Alan) returned with swabs and a depressor in his hand and said "open wide" and proceeded to forcefully shove this depressor into the back of my throat. I was shocked and not prepared, as he did not explain anything, so I moved away from his hands as he gagged me. I looked at him and he said "you can't touch my hands". I said "I'm sorry, you could at least tell me what you were doing" and he said "well I need the sample". I said "I'm done, thanks anyway" as he tried to go back in for the sample. He looked at my fiancé and walked out. He never apologized or asked if I was ok. The doctor came in about 7mins later and I told him that I felt that the RN was totally inappropriate and had no idea how to treat his patients. The doctor, again, was uninterested in what I had to say and just told me that I didn't have to pay for the visit. He asked if he or another nurse could swab me and I told him that no one would touch me and whatever I had, I'd get over it. He said he would call in a prescription to the HyVee near me and walked out of the room. He didn't tell me where I could checkout or if he was done with me. So my fiancé and I left. I can hardly believe that this health center is operational. Alan and Dr. Stephens are completely unprofessional and not fit to take care of patients. The basic principles of ethics and the Hippocratic Oath, by which they swear, were totally disregarded. I will never return to this facility.
